MBits Digital, Mier to promote leapfrog technologies to transform economy

MBits Digital Sdn Bhd has teamed up with the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (Mier) to promote the development of leapfrog technologies that will transform the Malaysian economy.

KUALA LUMPUR: MBits Digital Sdn Bhd has teamed up with the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (Mier) to promote the development of leapfrog technologies that will transform the Malaysian economy.

MBits Digital, which describes itself as a communications industry disruptor, is a telco-media company licenced by the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia.

Both parties signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the partnership last week, with Mier will be MBits Digital's investment and financial consultant in telecommunications projects.

The projects will range from national fiberisation, deployment of 5G and 6G mobile network infrastructure and new age broadcasting. The latter includes digital broadcasting platforms and e-commerce platforms focusing on promoting local products and content to the world.

Mier will also undertake independent high-quality, problem-oriented research on economic, financial and business issues facing the country and will provide advice on macroeconomic management, development and future economic perspectives.

MBits Digital chief executive officer and founder Saraleana Nattaya Azmi said the agreement would build on promoting the development of leapfrog technologies to transform and grow the Malaysian economy.

"The conclusion of this agreement comes at an opportune moment following the launch of LIFE*, Malaysia's first telco-media platform and PLAY, our OTT broadcasting digital platform in October," said Saraleana.

Mier chairman Tan Sri Dr Kamal Salih said it was optimistic about the opportunity to strengthen the development and growth of the Malaysian economy.

"The current global pandemic makes it critically important to improve the affordability of digital lifestyle for our society including as a means to improve their livelihoods.

"Together with MBits Digital, we can renew our efforts to promote the development of technology, as well as improve and transform the Malaysian economy towards a digital economy," said Kamal.

Mier was committed to use its initiatives and resources to promote and market the projects as national projects in collaboration with MBits Digital and in general to act as the investment commercial and financial consultant to MBits Digital, he added.
